This trek to the sacred Phoksundo Lake is a privilege few foreigners have enjoyed due to the regions' closure until 1989. It lies in the Trans-Himalayan region of the Mid-Western Nepal which is rugged and remote. This trek requires the crossing of two high passes. It falls within the Shey Phoksundo National Park. It has scattered fascinating village and is still the land of mystery, serenity and peace. This route provides pleasure of nature to the trekkers, who are more adventurous.
The northern part of Dolpo is usually called 'Inner Dolpo' and has long had an aura of mysticism about it, largely because of the mataphysical discussions of the region in Peter Mathiessen's book 'The Snow Leopard'. Shey was closed to foreigners until 1992. Though it's challenging trek, most of the part are still undiscovered and crystal mountain view and the unique landscape and diveresed culture awaits the visitors. |
